Driving Inclusive Change: AMF Strategic Plan 2026–2030

The Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen Foundation (AMF) has launched its Abridged Strategic Plan for 2026–2030, setting a clear and ambitious direction for the next five years. As a women-led, youth-focused national Civil Society Organization registered with the FDRE Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), AMF continues to expand its commitment to inclusive development, peacebuilding, and economic justice across Ethiopia.

Our Vision and Mission

AMF envisions a just and resilient society where Ethiopia is at the center of everything.

Our mission is to work with people and communities—together with the natural environment—to create enduring solutions for peaceful coexistence and a just society. We advance education, research, livelihood resilience, and natural balance to address systemic challenges at both community and national levels.

Strategic Goal (2026–2030)

Over the next five years, AMF will focus on one overarching goal:

To empower women and youth as agents of change for inclusive development, peace, and economic justice.

This goal translates into six strategic objectives:

  • Strengthening women’s economic empowerment and rights
  • Enhancing youth leadership and civic engagement
  • Promoting girls’ education and safe learning environments
  • Advancing peacebuilding and social cohesion
  • Building resilient community institutions
  • Strengthening AMF’s institutional capacity and sustainability

Priority Program Areas

AMF’s work will concentrate on five integrated program pillars:

1. Women’s Economic Empowerment & Economic Justice
Supporting women’s entrepreneurship, cooperatives, financial access, and economic rights awareness—especially in rural and peri-urban communities.

2. Youth Empowerment and Leadership Development
Providing life-skills training, mentorship, and youth-led dialogue platforms, while using sports, arts, and innovation as tools for social transformation.

3. Girls’ Education and Adolescent Empowerment
Improving school retention and performance, addressing gender-specific barriers, and promoting safe, inclusive learning spaces.

4. Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion
Facilitating community dialogue, conflict prevention initiatives, and inclusive peace processes that actively engage women and youth.

5. Institutional and Community Capacity Strengthening
Building the capacity of grassroots institutions such as Edir, Equb, and cooperatives, while strengthening governance systems and local leadership structures.

Cross-Cutting Commitments

Across all programs, AMF mainstreams:

  • Gender equality and women’s leadership
  • Youth participation
  • Inclusion of persons with disabilities
  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • Environmental responsibility

Geographic Focus and Partnerships

AMF primarily operates in Addis Ababa and surrounding urban/peri-urban areas, as well as in the Amhara Region, particularly South Gondar Zone (Tach Gaint Woreda). Expansion to other regions will be guided by community needs and strategic partnerships.

Collaboration remains central to AMF’s impact. The Foundation works closely with government institutions, schools, community structures, and development partners to ensure sustainability, scale, and policy relevance.

Accountability and Sustainability

AMF integrates Results-Based Management and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems, including baseline assessments and participatory community feedback mechanisms. Institutional strengthening, transparent governance, and diversified resource mobilization ensure long-term sustainability.

The 2026–2030 Strategic Plan positions AMF not only as a service provider, but as a catalyst for systemic change—where women and youth are not beneficiaries, but leaders shaping Ethiopia’s future.
